My 8 year old is Live Free Suds &Rubs biggest fan. He is always coloring designs for us to try. This week he made his first soap design. He picked the colors and scents and I think he executed his plan beautifully! These are curing now, but will be ready for you by June.
Truth About Lye
Sodium hydroxide, otherwise known as lye, is the only way to make real soap. Many commercial products are made with detergents to give you lather, which is the reason I started making my own soap. However, if lye is not used, the product is not real soap. I know this makes most people gasp, it did me until I researched the scientific process. When lye is used in making soap, it is what is called a reagent, meaning it is used in a chemical reaction to create another substance. When making soap, a water/lye mixture is carefully measured out and is blended with natural oils in a process called saponification. Lye is simply an agent used to create soap. There is no unreacted lye remaining in soap that’s properly made. We personally use all our soaps before offering them to you to test them out.
The only warning that comes with all natural soaps that we make is that real soap can sting the eyes a bit, without harm.
